Tu Decides THE NEW STEELO, Jamie Fox Concert Review, October 16, 2009

Because of our musical roots and heavy influence of R&B, we thought it would be appropriate to bring a review of live R&B, namely the undeniable Jamie Foxx. Foxx came to the Key Arena in Seattle this past week and we were lucky enough to sit through the show.

Unlike his first visit to Seattle, Foxx concentrated mainly on music and not so much on comedy. Not that this was a bad thing, and don't get us wrong, he still made the crowd laugh on numerous occasions but this show featured almost every song from his newest album, "Intuition," with little comedic performance.

The singer-comedian blew ballads and rocked the arena with his reigning summer hit "Blame It," he also focused on the woman, shouting out to all the "independent women" at every turn. One interesting stance that Foxx did take throughout the show was that the world no longer needed auto-tune (a computerized tool that singers use to tune their voices and make them sound more digital). Maybe he picked up the coattails of Jay-Z, who rapped the song "D.O.A." or "Death of Auto-Tune," which sparked the movement away from the digitized form of song making. Foxx summed up his point by stating that "the women just need to be sang to" – and he’s right.

The superstar's stage show was high-level, using a full band, two dancers, and even large African drums at one point. All in all, the renaissance man brought steelo, comedy, and sultry vocals to Seattle. We can't wait until he comes back.

Remember; let your steelo be your passion. It's a lifestyle.
